This article explains how coaches can complete the assessment for players.
Coaches are able to control whether their players can compete in green ball tournaments. They can change a player's skill level from the Net Generation mobile app using the assessment tool. In order to use the assessment tool in the Net Generation, mobile app coaches must be Safe Play approved and be USPTA and/or PTR approved in their usta.com coach profile.
- USPTA coaches must have a certification type of Certified Professional or Certified Instructor and be in good standing with their USPTA membership.
- PTR coaches must have a certification type of Level 1 or Level 2 and be in good standing with their PTR membership.
Once a player (player must send the connection request) and their primary coach are connected on the mobile app the coach can send a progress report with an assessment and skill level change. Coaches must watch a training video on how to complete the assessment. If a player aged 7 or 8 years old has been given Orange Level 1 or Green Level 2 or Green Level 1 by their coach it will be sent to USTA’s data platform and will convert the player’s competition level to green ball. Players aged 6 and under are not eligible to be given the green competition level.
The steps below are for coaches to reference on how to move a player to the green ball competition level or you can click here for a video guide.

- If you want to connect with a Coach, you can follow these steps here.
Assess Performance
- Go to connections and click on a player, click on add progress, and then click on Assess Performance.
- Choose the Orange Level 1, Green Level 2, or Green Level 1 Assessment and watch the 25-minute training video. This training video is only required to be watched once per level and will instruct you how and when to carry out an assessment.
- Important: You must select the assessment and the skill level for the level the player is currently at, not the one they are moving to.
-
Complete the appropriate assessment.
- The player must score 85% or above to successfully pass the assessment.
- If the player passes the assessment, change the player's skill level immediately after saving the assessment.
Change Skill Level
- Immediately after assessing the player with a score of 85% or higher, you can change the skill level.
- From the add progress page, click on Change Skill Level.
-
Choose the same level you just did the assessment for (Orange Level 1, Green Level 2, or Green Level 1) and click submit progress. You must select the skill level for the level the player is currently at, not the one they are moving to.
- Example: If the player successfully passes the assessment for Orange Level 1, the skill level must be changed to Orange Level 1. The system will then update the player to Green ball, and the player will be able to register for a new event in real-time.
