This article explains how coaches can complete the coach assessment for players.
Coaches are able to control whether their players can compete in green ball tournaments. They can change a player's skill level from the USTA Coaching mobile app using the assessment tool.
In order for Providers to have access to the Coach tools on the USTA Coaching app, they must:
- Be Safe Play approved
- Complete their Coach Profile
- Complete at least one of the following:
- Be an active PTR coach with the certification type of Level 1 or Level 2, be in good standing with their PTR membership, and apply their unique PTR number on Step 1 of their Safe Play application.
- Be an active RSPA Certified Coach with the certification type of Certified Professional or Certified Instructor, be in good standing with their RSPA membership, and apply their unique RSPA number on Step 1 of their Safe Play application.
- Complete the USTA Coaching Professional Certification.
Coaches who meet the requirements can assess players who are 7 or 8 years old from orange to green ball. The assessment can be completed through the USTA Coaching mobile app.

- Once the assessment is complete, the ball color for the player still displays as orange ball but the competition level changes immediately.
- The player and Provider must first be connected in the app to complete the assessment.

- Please note you may complete assessment and skill level changes for all of the ball colors within the app, except for the yellow ball.
