What is a Dominant Duo?
A Dominant Duo is a 2-player team tournament. A Dominant Duo is most successfully run using full draws of 8, 16, or 32 teams. A popular draw format is a 16 team (32 players) compass draw because it guarantees 4 singles and 4 doubles matches to each player and can be run in 2 days.
- Match Format
Each player plays one singles match and one doubles match. In same gendered duos, each team will have a #1 singles player and a #2 singles player. In co-ed duos, each player will compete in line 1. The team that wins two out of the three matches wins the team match.

Note: For Dominant Duos, Players are brought into the Main draw via Tournament Desk post Player Selections.
- Scheduling
If you are limited on courts, you may choose to schedule one court per team match and begin with the doubles, then play each singles match back to back.
- Popular Alternate List Best Practice
If a selected player withdraws after entries close, the remaining partner must immediately contact the Tournament Director to make arrangements for a period of time to be determined by the Tournament Director to find a replacement partner. The time permitted will depend on the proximity to the start of the tournament. If the remaining player does not wish to play or find a replacement partner, the next alternate team shall be moved into the draw. A replacement partner can be any eligible player so long as the new pairing must have a combined standing higher than the #1 alternate team in order to be placed in the draw. All withdrawals require written verification pursuant to USTA Regulations.
